EDWARD “BUDDY” UNRUH, 82, formerly of Garden City, Kansas, passed away Wednesday afternoon, January 22, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Wellington.
Born on March 11, 1931 in Montezuma, Kansas, he was the son of William and Augusta (Unruh) Unruh. He received his education in Montezuma and remained on the family farm until moving to Garden City. He found employment at Ehresmans, a local meat locker.
Buddy was united in marriage to Linda M. Lee on August 11, 1973 in Garden City. The couple had no children but loved spending time with their nieces and nephews. He was known for his love of candy and he made sure no-one reached in his candy bucket because that’s where he store his false teeth. He loved gardening, fishing and walking around the golf course where he kept a special bucket of orange golf balls for his niece and would laugh when he presented his treasure. Mrs. Unruh preceded him in death on May 20, 2013.
He attended the Southern Baptist Church in Garden City.
His family includes: His brothers: Waldo Unruh of Winfield, KS; Raymond Unruh and wife DaMaris of Elbing, KS; Lester Unruh and wife Verla of Rockhill, NC; and Dale Unruh and wife Ruth of Andrews, TX; His sisters: Betty Mick and husband Marv of Bridgeport, West Virginia; and Dolly Poggendorf of Cozad, NE; His sisters in law: Marie Unruh of Cheyenne Wells, CO; and Wilma Unruh of Shawnee, KS; and A host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lee, Allen & Larry Unruh; his brother-in-law, Paul Poggendorf; and his sister in law, Bette Unruh.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. A visitation will be held at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., with the family present during that time.
